UMO Men's Soccer Falls In Overtime To Emmanuel 1-0

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – The University of Mount Olive men's soccer team fell to the Lions of Emmanuel College 1-0 in overtime on the road in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon in Franklin Springs, Ga.
 
Game Information
The Trojans, who were coming off their first win of the season looked poised to strike again but Emmanuel outshot Mount Olive 8-to-3 in the opening half, with neither team finding the back of the net. The second half did not see any scoring either, however, UMO was able to best their opponents in the shots category 9-to-7.  

In overtime, Mount Olive kicked it into high gear firing three shots in under 1:30 into extra time, but once again the golden goal was elusive. A series of EC shots were to come but none found the back of the net and Mount Olive stayed alive heading into the 98th minute. The Lions' Jeremy Gwaltney was able to sneak a ball past the Trojan keeper in the 100th minute of overtime and won the game for Emmanuel.

 
Trojan Leaders
Mount Olive was led by James Lang and Alfie Pope who recorded five and four shots respectively for the Trojans.

Iwan Roberts (1-2, 0-1 CC) in goal for the Trojans recorded five saves on six shots playing all 90 minutes.

Lion Leaders
Emmanuel was led by Jeremy Gwaltney who led the team in shots with four and had the game-winning goal.

Key Moment
The golden goal by Emmanuel in the 100th minute of stoppage time was the deciding factor as the goal was the only one scored in the match.
