Trojan Men's Soccer Advances To Semifinals of the Conference Carolinas Championship

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina– The University of Mount Olive men's soccer team toppled the no. 2 seed Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College 2-0 in the Quarterfinals of the Conference Carolinas Championship Saturday afternoon in Belmont, N.C. The win advances the men to the final four hosted by Chowan University next week.
 
Game Information

The Trojans had to wait until the late in the opening half to find the first score of the game, but Zac Harvey-Lathem found the back of the net in the 40th minute to give UMo the lead heading into the break. Mount Olive added a second goal 11 minutes into the second period to double their lead and then it became a defensive game for the Trojans. Belmont Abbey registered two more shots following the Mount Olive goal and then the game became a little more interesting as the Trojans went a man down after a red card. The Crusaders pressed but the Trojans held strong with Iwan Roberts collecting two saves in the final four minutes to secure the win for UMO.

 
Trojan Leaders

Mount Olive was led by both Zac Harvey-Lathem and Pedro Franca who scored UMO's only goals.

Iwan Roberts (3-9-1) in goal for the Trojans corraled five saves on five shots.

Crusader Leaders

Belmont Abbey was led by Davis McBee who had two shots both on frame.

 
Up Next: Mount Olive will remain on the road as they travel to the men's championship host Chowan next week. The Trojans will now take on the No. 3 seed Erskine College at 2:30 p.m. in Murfreesboro, N.C.
