Mount Olive remained undefeated as the Trojans defeated Barton 8-1 in Conference Carolinas men's tennis Wednesday at Walker Tennis Center. The Trojans won all three doubles matches and took five-of-six singles matches.
Mount Olive (9-0 overall, 5-0 Conference Carolinas) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in doubles play as Edgar Bub and Rik Wolthuis (No. 1 doubles), Henric Falkenburg and Akio Mariano (No. 2 doubles) and Brahm Moolman and Gabriel Santana (No. 3 doubles) all posted identical 8-2 wins.
Bub won in three sets at No. 1 singles and Falkenburg posted a straight set win at No. 3 singles to clinch the team win. Barton (4-6, 2-4) posted a win at No. 2 singles to avoid the shutout.
Mount Olive heads to the Pee Dee Region of South Carolina for a pair of matches this weekend. The Trojans are in Florence, S.C., Friday to take on nationally ranked Francis Marion. Saturday, the Trojans go to Hartsville, S.C., to face Coker in a battle of conference unbeatens.
