Men's Tennis Falls To Division I East Carolina 7-0

Mount Olive fell to Division I East Carolina 7-0 in non-conference men's tennis Wednesday at Greenville, N.C. The loss was only the second of the season for the Trojans, which are ranked No. 50 in the ITA Division II National Poll.

Edgar Bub and Rik Wolthuis nearly pulled off an upset at No. 1 doubles before falling 9-7. Akio Mariano had the closest singles match, falling 7-5, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.

The Trojans fell to 11-2, while East Carolina improved to 14-2.

Mount Olive heads to the Charlotte, N.C., area this weekend for a pair of matches. The Trojans are at Belmont, N.C., Saturday for a Conference Carolinas match-up against Belmont Abbey, then travel to Wingate, N.C., Sunday to take on Wingate in non-conference action. Match time both days is 1 p.m.
