No. 30 Men's Tennis Defeats North Greenville 6-3 In Conference Carolinas Action

Nationally 30th-ranked University of Mount Olive clinched the team win in the first five matches and remained unbeaten against non-Division I opposition as the Trojans defeated North Greenville 6-3 in Conference Carolinas men's tennis Friday at Walker Tennis Center. Edgar Bub and Matt Finnerty won at the top two singles flights after the Trojans swept doubles play.

Mount Olive (9-1 overall, 3-0 Conference Carolinas) took a 3-0 lead with three doubles matches. Finnerty and Henric Falkenberg posted an 8-0 shutout at No. 2 doubles, while Bub and Rik Wolthuis won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Brahm Moolman and Stan Roffe also posted an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

Finnerty did not drop a game at No. 2 singles in his 6-0, 6-0 win. Bub needed three sets before pulling out a 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles to secure the team win. North Greenville (3-4, 2-1) won three of the remaining four singles matches. Roffe posted a 10-1 win in a 10-point pro set after splitting the first two sets at No. 5 singles.

Mount Olive heads west and a bit south during Spring Break for a pair of matches against Peach Belt Conference opponents. The Trojans travel to Dahlonega, Ga., Monday to take on North Georgia, then go to Aiken, S.C., Tuesday to face USC Aiken.
