Edgar Bub posted wins in singles and doubles, and Lautaro Vazquez's straight-set win at No. 6 singles secured the team victory as top-seeded and nationally 28th-ranked Mount Olive defeated No. 5 seed Limestone 5-2 in the semifinal round of the 2014 Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Tournament Saturday at Sumter, S.C. The win was Mount Olive's 14th in a row and advances the Trojans to the championship match for the second time in the last three years.
Mount Olive (17-1) swept doubles play to jump out to a 3-0 lead. Bub and Rik Wolthuis won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, Matt Finnerty and Henric Falkenberg posted an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles, and Stanley Roffe and Brahm Moolman capped the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at the No. 3 flight.
Limestone (13-8) got on the board with wins at Nos. 3 and 4 singles. Bub won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Vazquez sent the Trojans to the title match with a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles.
Mount Olive will face No. 6 seed Barton Sunday in the championship match. Barton upset No. 2 seed King 5-4 Saturday. The Trojans defeated Barton 7-2 in the regular season. Match time is 10 a.m. with the winner earning an automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA II Southeast Regional.
