No. 24 Men's Tennis Shuts Out Lees-McRae 9-0

Nationally 24th-ranked University of Mount Olive dropped only four games in three doubles matches as the Trojans defeated Lees-McRae College 9-0 in Conference Carolinas men's tennis Saturday at Walker Tennis Center. Matt Finnerty and Henric Falkenberg won their doubles match in less than 18 minutes.

Mount Olive (4-3 overall, 2-0 Conference Carolinas) jumped out to a quick lead after Finnerty and Falkenberg won 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. Martim Sousa and Lautaro Vazquez followed with an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles and Edgar Bub and Paul Wiederspahn posted an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles.

The Trojans clinched the team victory after straight-set wins by Finnerty, Bub and Wiederspahn at the top three singles flights. Falkenberg, Sousa and Stanley Roffe also won their matches in straight sets. Sousa did not lose any games at No. 5 singles.

Mount Olive returns to action Wednesday as the Trojans play host to Bluefield College in a non-conference match-up. Match time is 4 p.m. at Walker Tennis Center.
