24th-Ranked Men's Tennis Defeats Wingate 6-3

Straight-set wins by Matt Finnerty and Edgar Bub clinched the team victory as nationally 24th-ranked University of Mount Olive defeated Wingate University 6-3 in non-conference men's tennis Sunday at Wingate, N.C. The win was the Trojans' eighth in a row.

Mount Olive (10-3) took a 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles play. After the Trojans fell at No. 3 singles, Finnerty won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1 singles and Bub posted an identical 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles. Wingate (9-5) won at Nos. 3-5 singles, while Martim Sousa won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6 singles for the Trojans.

Mount Olive is off until this weekend when the Trojans travel to Upstate South Carolina for a pair of Conference Carolinas matches. The Trojans face Southern Wesleyan Friday and North Greenville Saturday.
