No. 40 Men's Tennis Defeats Chowan 7-2

Nationally 40th-ranked University of Mount Olive swept doubles play on its way to a 7-2 victory over Chowan University in non-conference men's tennis Tuesday at Walker Tennis Center.

Mount Olive (5-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead as Martin Moser and Yannic Stark opened with an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. Jose Luis Cortijos and Martim Sousa followed with an 8-4 victory at No. 2 doubles and Ogulcan Deniz and Sherzod Akramov won 8-6 at No. 1 doubles.

Chowan (3-3) rallied with wins at the top two singles flights, but the Trojans took the remaining for singles matches to seal the win. Moser rallied from a one-set deficit for a 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 victory at No. 3 singles.

Mount Olive returns to action Thursday as the Trojans travel to Greenwood, S.C., to take on nationally fifth-ranked Lander University in a rematch of the first round of last year's NCAA Division II Southeast Regional. Match time is 2 p.m.
