No. 40 Trojans Defeat Bluefield 8-1

Nationally 40th-ranked University of Mount Olive swept doubles play and went on to defeat Bluefield College 8-1 in non-conference men's tennis Sunday at Walker Tennis Center. The Trojans came within one singles match of a shutout.

Mount Olive (6-2) led 3-0 after doubles play and clinched the overall win after straight-set singles wins by Jose Luis Cortijos at No. 2 singles and Martin Moser at No. 3 singles extended the Trojans' lead to 5-1. Martim Souza, Sherzod Akramov and Jacob Clarke all won in straight sets. Clarke dropped only one game in his 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles.

Mount Olive will be idle for more than a week until the Trojans play host to Division I Campbell University March 15. Match time is 2 p.m. at Walker Tennis Center.
