Men's Tennis Tops Kings 5-4

University of Mount Olive defeated King University 5-4 Friday afternoon in Conference Carolinas men's tennis in Bristol, Tenn. Trojans won the final singles match to take the match.

Mount Olive (8-3 Overall, 5-0 Conference Carolinas) started off the match down as the Trojans dropped #1 doubles. Martim Sousa and Jose Luis Cortijos tied the match with a 8-2 win in #2 doubles. The Trojans fell in #3 doubles and looked to win the match in singles.

Ogulcan Deniz started Mount Olive off in #1 singles and defeated King's (9-7, 4-1) Moritz Poswiat 7-6, 6-4 to tie the match again at two. Luis Cortijos continued with the momentum in #2 singles as he won 7-6, 3-6, 6-1. Sousa broke the tie following a loss in #4 singles as he defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-0. King fought back to tie the match with a win in #5 singles and it came down to the final singles competition. Sherzod Akramov picked up the tie-breaker as he took #6 singles 6-1, 6-4 to give Mount Olive the win.

Mount Olive will have a quick turnaround as the Trojans travel to Banner Elk, N.C. to take on Lees-McRae College Saturday morning.
