Mount Olive Men's Tennis Advances To Conference Carolinas Championship

No. 2 seed University of Mount Olive advanced to the Conference Carolinas Men's Tennis Championship after defeating Belmont Abbey College and Barton College 5-1 in Sumter, S.C. Mount Olive will take on the No. 1 seed Pfeiffer University Sunday morning.

Mount Olive (14-5) made it past the quarterfinals as the Trojans took an early 2-1 lead in doubles play against Belmont Abbey. Jose Luis Cortijos/Martim Sousa and Martin Moser/Yannic Stark took No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

Luis Cortijos went on to take No. 2 singles 6-0, 6-1. Martim Sousa took No. 4 singles 7-5, 6-0 and Yannic Stark then took No. 5 singles 6-1, 6-2 as Mount Olive advanced to the semifinals.

In the semifinal match against Barton, Mount Olive again took No. 2 and No. 3 doubles taking a 2-1 lead into singles play. Luis Cortijos won No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-2 to give the Trojans a 3-1 lead. Stark then went on to take No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-0 and Sherzod Akramov won at No. 6 singles 6-2, 6-3.

Mount Olive lost to Pfeiffer 5-4 at the Walker Tennis Center on April 19.
