Trojans Fall To No. 9 Lander

FLORENCE, S.C. - The University of Mount Olive men's tennis team dropped the spring season opener as they fell to No. 9 Lander University in the first round of the City of Florence College Tennis Invitational.

INSIDE THE RESULTS

  • UMO found itself behind 2-1 after doubles action.
  • The Trojans only doubles win came at No. 1 doubles as the freshman/sophomore combo of Armando Ferreira and Jack Middleton earned a close 9-8 victory.
  • In singles action, the Trojans were leading two matches and tied in a third, all of which went unfinished per tournament rules, but the Bearcats won three singles pairings taking the match 5-1.
  • Martin Moser was leading the No. 2 singles match 7-6, 2-2, while teammate Sherzod Akramov led his opponent 7-6, 0-1 through one full set at No. 4 before the game got called.

NOTES

  • The Trojans' compete on day two of the City of Florence College Tennis Invitational as they square off against Conference Carolinas rival Barton College in the consolation semifinals at 10 a.m. looking for a bid to the consolation finals.
