UMO Splits Day Two Of The City of Florence College Tennis Invitational

FLORENCE, S.C. - The University of Mount Olive men's tennis team split the final day of the City of Florence College Tennis Invitational defeating Conference Carolinas rival Barton College in the consolation semifinals and falling to Palm Beach Atlantic in the consolation semis to go 1-2 on the weekend.

GAME 1 - Consolation Semifinals vs. Barton College - W, 5-2

INSIDE THE RESULTS

  • The Trojans emerged with a 2-1 lead after doubles action picking up wins at doubles No. 1 & 2.
  • UMO's No. 1 doubles pair of Armando Ferreira and Jack Middleton took an 8-5 victory to give Mount Olive one doubles win.
  • Martin Moser and Sherzod Akramov claimed an 8-2 win at the No. 2 doubles slot helping the Trojans take the 2-1 lead.
  • In singles action, the Trojans picked up wins in singles matches No. 1, 3, and 6 to defeat the Bulldogs 5-2.
  • Freshman Ferreira quickly got UMO their third point of the game picking up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1.
  • Martin Moser finished just after taking down the No. 2 player from Barton 6-2, 6-1.
  • The No. 3 player from Barton took the next match defeating Jack Middleton 6-3, 6-3, before Alex Meseguer Carce clinched the win for UMO at No. 6 winning 7-5, 6-3.

NOTES

  • The Trojans' advanced to the consolation finals to face Palm Beach Atlantic later in the day at 2 p.m.

GAME 2 - Consolation Finals vs. Palm Beach Atlantic - L, 5-1

INSIDE THE RESULTS

  • The Trojans came out of the doubles round trailing 2-1 to the Sailfish of PBA.
  • The No. 1 pair of Ferreira and Middleton completed the weekend doubles action 3-0 after earning the only doubles point for UMO in an 8-4 decision over the No. 1 pair from Palm Beach Atlantic.
  • In singles action Mount Olive was overwhelmed as the No. 5, 4 and 2 players from Palm Beach Atlantic won in two sets leaving the remaining matches unfinished.

Mount Olive hits the courts again on February 13 when they return to Florence, S.C. to face the Patriots of Francis Marion University. First serves are set for 2 p.m.
