Trojans Defeat Hawks 8-1 In Conference Carolinas Action

MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive men's tennis team defeated the Hawks of Chowan University 8-1 on Tuesday afternoon in Conference Carolinas competition in Murfreesboro, N.C.

INSIDE THE RESULTS

  • UMO found themselves ahead 2-1 after the doubles round.
  • Armando Ferreira and Jack Middleton continued their undefeated streak as the No. 1 doubles pair winning 8-6.
  • Pablo Safont Ferrer and Juan Arbelaez won the No. 3 doubles point, 8-6, and continue their four-match winning streak.
  • At the conclusion of the singles round, the Trojans emerged with a complete sweep of singles matches to beat Chowan 8-1.
  • Martin Moser took the first singles point winning at the No. 2 slot 6-4, 6-3.
  • Ferreira improved his season singles record to 6-1, extending his five-match win streak at the No. 1 slot.
  • Ferrer, 3-2, has won three of his last four singles bouts, including a 7-6 (1), 6-2 win at No. 5.
  • Jose Cortijos Planas won at the No. 3 spot in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, for the fourth UMO singles point.
  • Middleton took the No. 4 singles point in two sets, 6-2, 6-0, giving UMO the 7-1 match lead.
  • Sherzod Akramov won the No. 6 bout in a pro set 8-5 to give the Trojans the singles sweep and the 8-1 match win.

The Trojans are back in action again on Saturday, March 3, as they return to the John Neal Walker Tennis Courts in Mount Olive, N.C. UMO will faceoff against Conference Carolinas opponent Erskine College at 11 a.m. as both the men's and women's teams face the Erskine Flying Fleet.
