MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive men's tennis team defeated the Lions of Emmanuel College 8-1 in Conference Carolinas competition at the John Neal Walker Tennis Courts in Mount Olive, N.C.

INSIDE THE RESULTS
- The Trojans emerged from the doubles round with a 3-0 lead over the Lions.
- All three matches were competitive but UMO's No. 3 pair, Pablo Safont Ferrer/Juan Arbelaez, pulled out an 8-6 win to get things rolling for the home team.
- Martin Moser and Jose Cortijos Planas took an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles, while Armando Ferriera and Jack Middleton defeated a tough No. 1 duo from Emmanuel 8-7 (7-1) in a tiebreaker to sweep the doubles points.
- Safont Ferrer got the singles matches going earning Mount Olive their fourth match point with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the No. 5 singles flight.
- Cortijos Planas clinched the match as he downed the No. 3 player from Emmanuel in two sets, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), and gave UMO a 5-0 match lead.
- Ferriera took on the No. 1 Lions player, whom he just defeated in doubles action, and won in three sets, 6-0, 4-6, 7-5, for the Trojans sixth match point.
- Middleton took an 8-2 win in the No. 4 singles flight, while Moser came from a set down to win the No. 2 flight 1-6, 7-6 (7-3), 10-4.
- Emmanuel's only point came in the sixth flight as Alex Meseguer Carce fell 8-5 in a pro set putting the final match score at 8-1.

The Trojans are back in action on March 27 as they travel to Conference Carolinas opponent Belmont Abbey College. First serve is set for 2 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon in Belmont, N.C., as both the men and women take on the Crusaders.
