BELMONT, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive men's tennis team fell in a close Conference Carolinas match to the Crusaders of Belmont Abbey College 5-4 in a midweek contest at Belmont, N.C.

INSIDE THE RESULTS

  • The Trojans emerged from the doubles round with a 2-1 lead over the Crusaders.
  • Martin Moser and Jose Cortijos Planas took an 8-4 loss at No. 2 doubles as Belmont Abbey took the first doubles point.
  • UMO's No. 3 pair, Pablo Safont Ferrer/Juan Arbelaez, pulled out an 8-6 win to tie up the match score one point per team.
  • The trusty duo of Armando Ferreira and Jack Middleton won a tough No. 1 set 8-6 over the 13th nationally ranked pair of George Barfoot & James Delaney.
  • Mount Olive took a 4-2 lead through the first three singles matches as Sherzod Akramov and Ferreira won the No. 6 & No. 1 games respectively.
  • Akramov won 6-1, 6-0 over BAC's No. 6 player while Ferreira won in three sets (1-6, 6-1, 7-5) over Delaney in the No. 1 flight.
  • The Crusaders rallied taking singles No. 5, 2, and 3, in that order, to win out the match handing the Trojans a 5-4 loss, their first in conference action.

UP NEXT

The Trojans are back in action on this weekend as they travel to Young Harris, Ga., for a pair of non-conference matches. UMO will face Young Harris on Friday, March 30, at 2 p.m. They follow on Saturday, March 31, with a match against North Georgia with a first serve time of 11 a.m.
