Trojans Post Strong Marks On Day One Of Palmetto Tennis Tournament

PALMETTO, South Carolina - The University of Mount Olive men's tennis team had a solid first day at the Palmetto Tennis Center Invitational in Palmetto, SC. Junior Armando Ferreira and sophomore Milosh Petrovic advanced to the Men's Singles semifinals of the invitational heading into day two tomorrow.

Ferreira and Petrovic, who were placed in the Men's Singles A Flight, both defeated their two opponents on the day to continue in the champions bracket on Saturday morning. Victor Nunez fell in the round of 32 and Christian Djonov won his opening match but lost his second continue tomorrow in the consolation bracket.

Gergory Normand and Jack Middleton won their opening matches in the Men's B Draw but could not defeat their second opponent of the day and move to the consolation bracket Saturday morning. Juan Arbelaez fell in the round of 32 but will also get a chance to continue on in consolation action.

Thiago Bertolani fell -64, 6-2 in the round of 32 in the Men's C Flight and will continue on tomorrow in the consolation rounds.

In doubles action, the duos of Ferreira/Petrovich and Arbelaez/Djonov both advanced to the semifinals of the Men's Doubles A Flight. Both sets have to get through teams from Belmont Abbey in the senifinals and have a chance to face off in the championship match.

Middleton/Nunez fell in the quarters to the duo that Ferreira/Petrovich will face at 8 AM tomorrow. The two will continue on in the consolation bracket.

Bertolani/Normand dropped their doubles match in the round of 16 in the Men's Doubles B Draw and will also play in the consolation flight for a chance to clinch a third place finish.
