UMO Men's Track And Field Makes Big Moves At NCAA Indoor Last Chance Meet

BOSTON, MA. – The University of Mount Olive men's track & field team had several athletes make strides for a bid to the 2019 NCAA DII Track and Field Indoor National Championship at the Boston University Last Chance Qualifier on Sunday in Boston, Ma. The Trojans' chance at qualifying athletes for the NCAA DII Indoor National championship was highlighted by the men's 4x400m team clocking an NCAA Automatic Qualifying mark and the fourth-fastest time in Division II, securing them a spot at the 2019 championships.

 MEN'S NOTABLES

  • Mount Olive had a great start to the last chance qualifier as the men's 4x400m relay team who narrowly missed an automatic qualifier earlier in the season crossed the line with the auto in hand and a new UMO school record. The time Arne LeppelsackRichard FisherJohnny Middlebrooks, and Tedric Shannon compiled was the fourth-fastest time in Division II.
  • Tedric Shannon also picked up an NCAA Provisional Qualifying mark in the 400m. His time of 48.40 put him 17th in the field but it broke the UMO school record in the process.
  • Johnny Middlebrooks joined the school record-breaking and NCAA Provisional brigade as his time in the 200m secured him places in both.
  • Rounding out the NCAA Provisional Qualifiers was junior Trevor Carr in the triple jump. His distance of 14.56m gave him the new top mark in the UMO record book and a third-place finish in the event. 

UP NEXT

  • Mount Olive will wait to see if any of their NCAA Provisional qualifying marks will make the field at the 2019 NCAA DII Indoor National Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas March 8-9. The men's 4x400m team will join Leah Hanle who has already punched her ticket with automatic qualifying mark earlier in the season.
  • The selections for the NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field Championships takes place Tuesday, February 26.
