Men's Volleyball Falls To Division I Penn State 3-0

University of Mount Olive fell to Division I Penn State 25-18, 25-11, 25-10 in non-conference men's volleyball Friday at University Park, Pa. Peyton Schirman led the Trojans with eight kills.

In the opening set, Mount Olive (3-3) used kills by Schirman and Kian Hollevoet to rally from an early deficit to tie the set 7-7. Penn State (1-6) came back with a 4-0 run to take the lead for good and the Trojans never got any closer than three points the remainder of the set.

Penn State jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the second set and a 9-4 lead in the third set and Mount Olive was unable to recover.

Tyler Yanez finished with 17 assists and two blocks for Mount Olive, while Alex Palmatier added a team-high three blocks. Josh Donahue recorded seven digs.

Chris Nugent led Penn State with a match-high 16 kills.

Mount Olive resumes Conference Carolinas action next weekend as the Trojans play a pair of away contests. The Trojans travel to Banner Elk, N.C., next Friday to take on Lees-McRae, then continue west to Bristol, Tenn., the following day to go up against King.
