Men's Volleyball Falls To Pfeiffer 3-0

University of Mount Olive fell to Pfeiffer University 25-18, 25-16, 25-18 in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball Wednesday at Misenheimer, N.C. The Trojans were held to their second lowest team hitting percentage of the season.

Mount Olive (13-10 overall, 10-7 Conference Carolinas) never led in the match until taking a 2-1 lead in the second set. The Trojans trailed 10-8 before Pfeiffer (17-3, 16-1) broke the game open with an 8-1 run. Mount Olive led 12-11 in the third set, but Pfeiffer scored six of the next seven points to take the lead for good.

Bret Rutledge led Mount Olive with seven kills. The Trojans were held to a .087 hitting percentage.

Sonny Hirini led Pfeiffer with a match-high 14 kills. The Falcons finished with a team hitting percentage of .506, the highest allowed by the Trojans this season.

Mount Olive concludes regular season play Friday as the Trojans travel to Belmont, N.C., to take on Belmont Abbey. Match time is 7 p.m.
