Men's Volleyball Sweeps Weekend Matches

University of Mount Olive completed a weekend sweep of North Greenville University and Emmanuel College Friday and Saturday inside of Kornegay Arena in Mount, Olive, N.C. for Conference Carolinas men's volleyball. The Trojans honored senior Mike Mann and Ryan Thomas at the conclusion of the 3-0 victory against Emmanuel Saturday afternoon.

In Friday night's match against North Greenville, Mount Olive (9-10 Overall, 8-6 Conference Carolinas) defeated the Crusaders 25-22, 25-23, 14-25, 25-20. Robert Poole led the Trojans with a season high 19 kills. Poole also added a team high eight service aces from the service line.

Jeff Yasalonis recorded 45 assists in the match and added two kills to his tally. Mann led the blocking team as he picked up two solo blocks and seven block assists. Mount Olive took the first two sets and lost the momentum as North Greenville (11-12, 6-9) took the third set and forced a fourth set. The Trojans did not allow the Crusaders to take the fourth set as Mount Olive picked up the points when they needed them to take the final set.

Saturday, on senior day, Mount Olive (10-10, 9-6) took a three set match 25-15, 25-16, 25-21 from Emmanuel (9-13, 6-12) and continued to roll. Kian Hollevoet led the Trojans with 11 kills and added to digs. Ivan Trifunovic and Mann were close behind Hollevoet as they both recorded 10 kills apiece. 

Mann led the Trojans with a .643 hitting percentage. Thomas assisted the Trojans with 12 digs and added one assist. Yasalonis collected 35 assists, two kills, and two digs. 

Mount Olive took both the first and second sets by at least nine points and looked to do the same in the third. The Lions drew as close as 16-13 in the third set but Mount Olive pulled back away and picked up the match point on a tip in and the Trojans finished off Emmaunel.

Mount Olive will close out the 2016 home season this Tuesday against arch rival Barton College. First serve is set for 7 p.m. from Kornegay Arena.
