Thousand Oaks, Calif. --- The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team earned a four-set victory over California Lutheran University, 25-9, 25-18, 22-25, 25-18, on Monday evening in Thousand Oaks, California.

Play-by-Play
FIRST SET
- The Trojans roared out to a 10-0 lead to open the match fueled by a pair of kills by senior Andrew Sydow and seven CLU errors.
- UMO did not relent as the Trojans used an 8-1 run to increase their lead to 20-5 on a service ace by junior Kian Hollevoet.
- In the final points, CLU attempted to chip away at the Trojans' advantage but UMO was just too much to handle as Mount Olive captured the first set victory 25-9 on a kill by senior Alex Palmatier.
- Mount Olive outhit CLU .526 to -.227 in the first set.
SECOND SET
- The Kingsmen kept pace with UMO through the first ten points but after the set was tied 5-5 the Trojans utilized a 5-1 run to gain some breathing room.
- CLU responded quickly with a 5-2 run of its own to cut the Mount Olive lead to 13-12.
- Over the course of the next 18 points, UMO took control on a 12-6 run in route to a 25-18 set victory for the Trojans.
THIRD SET
- The Kingsmen turned the tables on the Trojans in the third frame jumping out to an 11-4 lead.
- UMO clawed back within two at 19-17, but the Trojans could draw no closer in the final points of the 25-22 set loss.
FOURTH SET
- Mount Olive asserted itself early in the fourth stanza taking a 7-1 lead out of the gate.
- The lead was trimmed to two by CLU at 8-6 but the Kingsmen could not draw closer as UMO responded with a 4-0 run to retake a six point lead at 12-6.
- CLU looked to make a late set run as the Trojans' advantage was cut to five at 23-18 but UMO recorded two-straight points capped off by a kill by Palmatier that sealed the 25-18 set win and the 3-1 match victory.
KEY STATS
- Sophomore Joel Roberts recorded a career-high 15 kills to lead UMO and a .636 hitting percentage.
- Poole and Sydow each added double digit kills with 14 and 10, respectively.
- Leading the Trojans in assists was junior Jeff Yasalonis who tallied 42.
- UMO hit .346 for the match while CLU hit just .077.
