Mount Olive, N.C. --- In its home-opener, the University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team edged Emmanuel, 3-2, on Friday night in Kornegay Arena in Mount Olive, N.C.

FIRST SET
- The Trojans opened the contest as the aggressors as UMO grabbed an early 11-6 lead.
- UMO increased its lead to its largest point of the first set at 16-10 on a 3-0 run highlighted by a pair of kills by junior Bret Rutledge.
- Emmanuel chipped away at the Trojans' advantage until a late 5-2 run tied the set at 24.
- The Lions finished off the set with a 3-1 run to capture the come-from-behind 27-25 set win.
SECOND SET
- It was once again Mount Olive that took control of the set early on as UMO jumped out to an 11-7 advantage.
- A 3-0 run was key for the Trojans as the run gave UMO a 15-11 lead.
- Emmanuel looked poised to spoil Mount Olive's lead late in the frame for the second-straight set, but the Trojans pulled away for the 25-22 set victory.
THIRD SET
- The Lions turned the tables on UMO as it was Emmanuel grabbing an early 7-3 lead.
- Mount Olive attempted to claw back into the set and tied the score twice, but the Trojans could not pull ahead in the Lions' 25-23 win.
FOURTH SET
- Trailing 6-5, UMO utilized an 8-3 run to move in front 13-9.
- Emmanuel got within a point at 14-13, but the Trojans promptly responded with a 3-0 run to provide Mount Olive some cushion in route to its 25-20 set win.
FIFTH SET
- In the deciding fifth set, UMO opened with the first two points on a Lion attack error and a kill by Rutledge.
- The Trojans increased their lead to five at 10-5 before Emmanuel roared back with a 3-0 spurt to trim Mount Olive's advantage to just two.
- With Emmanuel threatening, UMO slammed the door on the Lions as the Trojans captured the 15-12 set victory and the 3-2 match win.
KEY STATS
- Junior Robert Poole led the Trojans with 16 kills, seven of which came in the opening set, and added three digs and a block.
- Adding 12, nine, and eight kills, respectively, were juniors Bret Rutledge and Kian Hollevoet and senior Alex Palmatier.
- Senior Andrew Sydow led UMO with 5.5 total blocks, while sophomore Shane Yeo tallied 30 assists and senior Josh Donahue recorded 14 digs.
