Mount Olive, N.C. --- The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team wrapped up its homestand with a three-set sweep of Limestone College in Conference Carolinas action in Kornegay Arena on Saturday afternoon in Mount Olive, N.C.

FIRST SET

  • UMO opened the match on a 6-0 run that forced a Limestone timeout.
  • Out of the timeout, the Saints put together a 4-0 run to put Limestone right back in the set trailing 6-4.
  • Limestone continued to nip at the Trojans' heels throughout the remainder of the set, but UMO staved off the Saints in the Trojans' 25-21 opening set win.
  • In the opening set, UMO hit .333 while the Saints hit .226.

SECOND SET

  • The Saints responded in the second set by jumping out to a 6-2 lead.
  • An 11-4 run by UMO put the Trojans in front 13-10 on the serves of Bret Rutledge and Joel Roberts.
  • Limestone tied the set at 13 which was followed by nine ties through the final points of the frame.
  • With the set tied at 23, kills by senior Alex Palmatier and junior Robert Poole powered the Trojans to a 25-23 second set victory.

THIRD SET

  • Unlike the previous to occasions, the first few points of the third set were split between UMO and Limestone as the score was knotted at six.
  • The Saints began to pull away with a 8-3 run that pushed Limestone ahead 14-9.
  • Inching closer throughout the mid portion of the set, UMO tied the set at 16 and took the lead at 18-17.
  • The Trojans jumped out to a three-point lead at 22-19, but Limestone responded with a 5-2 run to tie the set at 24.
  • Just like the second set, it was Palmatier and Poole who delivered with a kill each to win the set, 26-24, and the match, 3-0.

KEY STATS

  • Fresh off a 20-kill performance against North Greenville last night, Poole tallied 19 kills with a .361 hitting percentage.
  • Senior Josh Donahue led UMO with 11 digs while Yasalonis powered the Trojans with 36 assists.
  • For the match, UMO outhit the Saints, .265 to .187.
