Trojans Get First Win Of 2018 In Four Sets Over Queens University

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --- The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team picked up their first win of the season as they defeated Queens University in four sets in Charlotte, N.C. on Tuesday night in non-conference action. Robert Poole recorded his first double-double of the season as he led the Trojans attack with 19 kills on 47 attempts and tallied 10 digs in the four-set win.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play

FIRST SET

  • Following a four-four tie, the Trojans took a three-point lead off of back-to-back kills by Luke Visgitis and Iyanu Adebisi and a Queens attacking error.
  • The Royals came back to tie the set at eight all spurring a battle for control as the score tied three more times, last at 13 all, before UMO went up 16-13 on two Queens errors and a kill by Poole.
  • A 4-1 run by the Royals tied the game back up at 17 all that started another fight for control.
  • The scored tied the final time at 21 all before the Trojans went on a 4-2 run to close out the set with a score of 25-23.

SECOND SET

  • Queens started the second set on fire getting out to an early 8-3 lead over the Trojans.
  • UMO fought back to come within three points, 14-11, before the Royals scored three unanswered points to take a six-point lead, 17-11.
  • Mount Olive fought back to come within two points, 22-20, but the Royals closed out the set scoring the final three points to win 25-20. 

THIRD SET

  • UMO opened the third set on fire as they scored six straight points before the Royals of Queens called timeout.
  • The Trojans continued their run as they went up by 10 points, 11-1, following three straight aces by Jeff Yasalonis forcing another Queens timeout.
  • Mount Olive held their 10 point lead through the remainder of the set as UMO led the 13-11 run that closed out the set as the Trojans won 25-12.

FOURTH SET

  • The two squads traded points the entire set with neither team gaining more than a two-point lead until midway through with the Trojans going up by three, 12-9, following three consecutive Queens errors.
  • UMO held their slim three-point lead for the next five points until the Royals came back on a couple of Trojan errors to trail by one point, 17-16.
  • Mount Olive regained their three-point lead, 20-17, with three straight kills and finished out the set on a 5-4 run to win 25-20 taking the 3-1 match win.
