MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. --- The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team picked up a three-set win over Conference Carolinas opponent Emmanuel College on Friday night at Kornegay Arena in Mount Olive, N.C.

How It Happened

FIRST SET

  • Mount Olive went up 7-3 early in the opening set following three kills and a pair of Jeff Yasalonis aces.
  • The Lions pulled within three points, but a 7-2 run by the Trojans gave UMO an eight-point lead, 17-9, halfway through the set.
  • UMO took a ten-point lead, 23-13, following a pair of Trojan kills and several Lion errors.
  • An Emmanuel kill and Trojan error put the UMO lead at eight but back-to-back kills by Brad Monaghan closed out the set for the Trojans 25-15.

SECOND SET

  • The Lions kept the Trojans on their toes through the opening serves of the second set as the score sat tied at three all.
  • UMO scored three-straight points on two Lion errors and a Robert Poole ace taking the 6-3 lead.
  • The Trojans pulled ahead by five, 11-6, on four kills and a couple of Lion errors.
  • Emmanuel cut the Mount Olive lead to three, 19-16, but the Trojans closed out the set scoring six straight points courtesy of four Emmanuel errors, a kill by Poole and an ace from Luke Visgitis to win 25-18.

THIRD SET

  • Mount Olive opened set three on fire going up 7-1 over Emmanuel.
  • The Trojan lead dwindled to five following a 6-5 run putting the score at 12-7.
  • Emmanuel kicked things into gear going on an 11-6 run to tie the game at 18 all.
  • Three Trojan attacking errors gave Emmanuel their first lead of the set, 21-19, but UMO answered with three-straight points to retake the lead 22-21.
  • The score tied up two more times, at 22 and 23 points, but UMO put down two kills from Poole and Jerell Rogers to win the set 25-23 and the match 3-0.
