Four Trojans Named Spring Conference Carolinas Scholar-Athletes of the Year

High Point, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive had four student-athletes named 2018 Conference Carolinas Spring Scholar-Athletes of the Year as announced by the conference office on Friday afternoon. Justin Carroll, baseball, Jonathan Dahlke, men's track and field, Martin Moser, men's tennis, and Robert Poole, men's volleyball, helped the Trojans lead the way among conference schools with four honors.

Carroll, a senior from McGee's Crossroads, N.C., was a First-Team All-Conference Carolinas team member for the 36-14-1 UMO Baseball team this season. He was also a nationally statical threat as he ranked 6th nationally w 17 HRs (1st on team; 2nd in conf.), 8th in total bases (127), 17th in Home Runs Per Game (0.37), 34th in runs w 49 (T1 on team; T5 conf.), and 35th (2nd on team; 3rd conf.) in stolen bases (21). 

Dahlke, a senior from Cologne, Germany, was a First-Team All-Conference Carolinas member in the 800m and set the new conference meet record in at Conference Carolinas Outdoor Championship. Dahlke earned USTFCCA Outdoor All-Southeast Region honors in the 800m, 1500m, 5000m, and the steeplechase. The senior qualified for the NCAA DII Outdoor National Championship in both the 1500m and 5000m that will take place May 24-26 in Charlotte, N.C.

Moser, a junior from Voecklabruck, Austria, has picked up several laurels this season including a spot on the 2018 Conference Carolinas All-Academic Team and a Second-Team All-Conference Carolinas nod. Throughout the 2017-18 season, Moser collected a 14-2, 8-1 record as the No. 2 singles player and went 11-7, 6-3 as a member of the No. 2 doubles pair. 

Poole, a senior from Enfield, England, was a First-Team All-Conference Carolinas selection that led the team in kills (321), kills per set (3.28), service aces (73), service aces per set (.74), points (417.5), and points per game (4.30). Poole led the nation and conference in service aces and was fourth in the conference in kills and kills per set. Poole leaves UMO as the career leader in service aces (180) and second in program kills with 1,000 in his career.

The 2018 Spring Scholar-Athletes of the Year were voted on by the Student-Athlete Affairs Committee within the Conference Carolinas office. This prestigious award is presented annually to one student-athlete in each sport for recognition of their outstanding performance both on the field and in the classroom.

Requirements for Scholar-Athlete of the Year are:

• Student-athletes must have attended their member institution for at least one year and reached junior or senior standing
• Must have been named Academic All-Conference
• Hold a cumulative GPA of 3.25
• Must achieve first, second, or third all-conference team
