Mount Olive Named A 2017-18 AVCA Team Academic Award Recipient

LEXINGTON, KY. - The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team was one of 973 teams that earned a 2017-18 AVCA Team Academic Award, as announced on Monday by the America Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA).

UMO finished the season third in the Conference Carolinas standings with a 16-13 overall record and an 11-5 conference mark. The Trojans placed six athletes on the all-conference teams while Robert Poole highlighted the year by winning the Murphy Osborne Scholar-Athlete Award as well as being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-American team.

The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
