BRISTOL, TENN. --- The Mount Olive Trojans fell to the Tornado of King University in four sets on Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas men's volleyball action at the Student Center in Bristol, Tenn.

How It Happened
Play-by-Play

FIRST SET

  • The match began with King taking an early 7-0 lead over Mount Olive that included five kills and two Trojan errors.
  • Despite using a timeout to try and regroup, UMO found themselves trailing by 11 points, 16-5, after a 9-5 rally by the Tornado.
  • Mount Olive managed to cut the lead to five points, 21-15, following a 10-5 rally of their own that included two service aces from Max Cristina, three kills, one each from Shane Yeo, Luke Visgitis and Eric Visgitis, three King errors, and a pair of blocks, including one solo from Eric Visgitis.
  • Both teams scored four points each to close out the opening set as King won 25-19, fending off the rallying Trojans.

SECOND SET

  • The second set began with Mount Olive getting out to an early 8-3 lead. UMO tallied four kills, a service ace courtesy of Brad Monaghan, and three Tornado errors in the run.
  • Following back-to-back kills from Cristina, the Tornado took a timeout trailing the Trojans 14-7.
  • UMO opened up a 10-point lead, 20-10, following King's second timeout of the set on an error by the Tornado.
  • King led a 6-5 rally through final services but ran out of time as Mount Olive held on to win set two 25-16.

THIRD SET

  • After starting the third set tied four all, the Tornado took a five-point lead, 10-5 following their 5-1 run forcing UMO to call a timeout.
  • A 7-3 rally by King opened up an eight-point difference, 17-9, as coach Keohohou call his second timeout to strategize with his team.
  • The Trojans cut the lead to five points, 21-16, following a 7-4 run that included four kills from Luke Visgitis, a Cristina service ace, and two Tornado serving errors.
  • Unfortunately, UMO could not find enough points as King closed out the set with four consecutive points to win set three 25-16.

FOURTH SET

  • King opened set four with a 3-0 run and soon found themselves leading 8-4 heading into a UMO timeout.
  • An attack error by the Tornado pulled the Trojans back within three points, 12-9, but a 5-2 run forced yet another UMO timeout trailing 17-11.
  • Mount Olive found seven points throughout the remainder of the set but came up short at the end as King won the fourth set 25-17 and the match 3-1.

KEY STATS

  • Luke Visgitis was the lone Trojan to reach double digits in kills with 14 in the game.
  • Brad Monaghan and Eric Visgitis were just one kills shy of 10 kills as they each tallied nine in the match.
  • Shane Yeo set up 38 assists and garnered two kills.
  • Max Cristina led the team with four service aces as well as recording a team-high 10 digs.
