Trojans Top Lions For First Win Of Season

SAINT CHARLES, Missouri - The University of Mount Olive men's volleyball team defeated the Lions of Lindenwood University in straight sets, 25-22 25-21 25-20 on Thursday night in Saint Charles, Mo.

GAME INFORMATION
Mount Olive fell behind out of the gate losing the first point but battled back down 6-4 to go on a 6-to-2 run and take a 10-8 lead. The set went on to be tied seven times before the Trojans ended the set on a 5-to-2 run to take the opening salvo 25-22.

Set two was similar to the first as it was a dogfight with nine lead changes and neither squad holding more than a two-point lead until UMO found a 4-0 run down 15-13. The run changed the lead for the ninth time and gave Mount Olive the lead for good and the Trojans held on the take the second set 25-21.

The third set did see a big swing by Lindenwood early as the Lions took a 7-4 lead after a four-point run. The Trojans were able to tie the set at 10 and once again the teams began exchanging two-point swings. Tyran Gillespie broke the 18 all tie and helped UMO start a trend towards match point. After a service error moved the Trojan lead to 23-20 Mount Olive was able to get the final two points of the set and close out the match to pick up their first win of the season.

Trojan Leaders
The Trojans were led by Jarrod Ferguson with 10 kills in the match. Shane Yeo tallied 26 of the team's 33 assists. Trevor Treser led the defense with seven digs.

Lindenwood Leaders
The Lions were led by Diego Negron with nine kills. Brian Schwob collected 19 assists and tallied five digs. 

Key Moment
The biggest momentum swing came in the final set when Tyran Gillespie started the final push for UMO to stay in front of the Lions to take the final set and win by two.
