Mount Olive Captures Third Straight Conference Championship

Concord, N.C. – University of Mount Olive Men's Cross Country team secured their third consecutive Conference Carolinas Championship at the Frank Liske Park in Concord, N.C. Friday afternoon. Three Trojan runners claimed All-Conference First team honors, three claimed second team, and one runner claimed third team.

Akiharu Kitagawa finished second with a time of 25:09.00. Austin Steagall finished third at 25:33.00. Eugenio Gill took fifth at 25:51.30. Mike Munoz was sixth with a time of 25:55.20. Fredric Lang was ninth at 26:13.30. Jacon Urys was tenth at 26:14.00. Pol Domenech-Ferrer finished 12th at 27:01.30. Frederik Kapper was 18th at 27:48.30. Jonathan Dahlke finished 28th at 28:30.40 and Cirilo Perez took 54th at 30:08.10.

Kitagawa, Steagall, and Gill claimed first team All-Conference Carolinas first team honors. Munoz, Lang, and Urys were placed on the second team and Domenech-Ferrer was placed on the third team. Head Coach Matt van Lierop was named Coach of the Year.

Mount Olive is idle until November 22 when the Trojans travel to Montevallo, Ala., to compete in the 2014 NCAA Division II Men's Cross Country Southeast Regional. The Trojans, ranked No. 1 in the Southeast Region every week this season, are seeking their second straight regional title and their third straight trip to the NCAA II National Championship.
