Mount Olive Takes Second At NCAA National Preview Meet

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The University of Mount Olive men's cross country team finished tied for 2nd with Queens (N.C.) of 29 teams at the NCAA National Preview Meet hosted at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, Pa. Tai Smith and Jacob Gonzalez rounded out the top-10 for the Trojans who rank 9th nationally.

NOTABLES

  • Tai Smith and Jacob Gonzalez finished in the top-10 for the Trojans coming in ninth and tenth respectively with times of 25:43 and 25:47.

  • Alexandre Durand came in 21 with a time of 26:11 while teammate Jereamy Hall was just behind in 24th with a time of 26:15.

  • Jacob Willis, Jay Hall, and Daniel Francken finished up the event for the Trojans taking spots 62, 72, and 83 respectively.

  • Mount Olive beat out Queens University of Charlotte in the tiebreaker after a comparison of head-to-head finishes. UMO's #1 runner beat Queen's #1 runner, as did Mount Olive's second, third and fourth runners to hold a 4-1 advantage over the Royals.

  • 41 different states were represented by 306 runners in the meet. States that were not represented included Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Oklahoma, Utah, and Wyoming.

  • There were runners from 16 different countries, including the U.S. participating in the meet. Rosters for visiting teams include a total of 34 international students. The country with the most representation other than the U.S. is Germany with six runners.
