Mount Olive Takes Two On Senior Day

 University of Mount Olive defeated North Greenville University 4-3, 11-5 on senior day at Nancy Chapman Cassell Field for Conference Carolinas softball in Mount Olive, N.C. Senior Kelsey Akers moved into second place all-time in career hits with 203.

Mount Olive (25-15 Overall, 11-3 Conference Carolinas) trailed in game one as North Greenville scored the game's first run on a bases loaded walk. A fielder's choice allowed another run to come home and the Crusaders had the lead.

Charlene Thompson drove in the Trojans' first run on an RBI-single up the middle as Kelly Huffman scored.

In the third inning Kayla Allen singled with one away through the right side. She then stole second to move into scoring position. Anna Ingram singled through the left side and scored Allen from second. Jazmin Montgomery scored the go ahead run with an RBI-single to center and Ingram came home and gave Mount Olive a 3-2 lead.

Both teams remained silent for the middle half of the game until Jordan Willingham for North Greenville homered to lead off the inning and tied the game.

Thompson drew a walk to start off the Trojan half of the seventh. Akers picked up a career milestone hit as she hit a bloop shot into left center for career hit No. 200. A sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position. Allen was able to make contact and bring in the winning run as the Trojans walked off in the seventh.

In game two Mount Olive used a three run second and fourth inning to move in front of the Crusaders for good and take the second game. North Greenville got to within two runs after a three-run top of the fourth, but was not able to comeback as the Trojans swept the Crusaders.

Julie Hodges (8-4) picked up her second win of the day as she allowed five runs off 10 hits and struck out three.

Mount Olive will host Limestone College at Nancy Chapman Cassell Field Sunday. First Pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
