Salisbury, N.C. --- The University of Mount Olive softball team swept a pair of games from Goldey-Beacom College and Catawba College, 12-2 (6 innings) and 7-6, in the Catawba Invitational on Sunday in Salisbury, N.C.

GAME ONE
- Goldey-Beacom struck first with a RBI double in the top of the opening frame that gave the Lighting a 1-0 lead.
- The Trojans tied the ballgame in the bottom of the first as junior Kristin Power reached on an error and sophomore Charlene Thompson came in to score.
- UMO added a run in the second as sophomore Callie Ferrell scored on a wild pitch to give the Trojans a 2-1 lead.
- GBC answered in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly RBI.
- Senior Caitlin Ewers delivered a two-run double down the right-field line in the third that sent home junior Alexis Hobson and senior Danielle Myers and retook the lead for UMO, 4-2.
- The Trojans added onto their lead in the fourth as junior Anna Ingram singled in freshman Kelsey Hayes and Hobson knocked in a pair of runs that gave Mount Olive a 7-2 lead.
- Sophomore Kelly Huffman scored on a wild pitch while Ewers drove in another run to increase UMO's lead to 9-2 in the sixth.
- For the second time this season, Ferrell ended the game with a three-run blast to left field that pushed the Trojans to a 12-2 victory over Goldey-Beacom in six innings via the eight-run rule.
KEY STATS GAME 1
- Ewers (2-1) earned the victory in the circle, pitching six innings, allowing a pair of earned runs on four hits and striking out three in the win.
- Ferrell and Ewers each led the way for UMO with two-for-four outings with three RBIs each.
GAME TWO
- The first three innings passed without much offensive action as both teams combined for a single hit in the opening three frames.
- The Trojans looked poised to take the lead in the fourth as UMO loaded the bases with two outs, but could not convert.
- Catawba jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI single.
- Mount Olive responded in the top of the fifth as Burge powered a two-run double up the middle, scoring Power and Ferrell to give the Trojans a 2-1 lead.
- Following Burge's double, freshman Karen Foley blasted her first collegiate home run, a three-run shot, that pushed UMO ahead 5-1.
- In the home half of the fifth, Catawba chipped away at the Trojans' advantage with a pair of RBI singles that narrowed UMO's lead to 5-3.
- Mount Olive added two insurance runs, one in each the sixth and seventh innings, to provide a 7-3 cushion for the Trojans.
- Catawba loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh and trimmed UMO's lead to two at 7-5 on a two-run single to right field.
- In the next at-bat, Catawba added another run on a RBI base hit up the middle that got Catawba within one at 7-6.
- With the bases loaded following a walk, Foley slammed the door on Catawba, striking out the Catawba batter for the third and final out of the seventh and preserving the 7-6 victory for the Trojans.
KEY STATS GAME 2
- Freshman Emily Chaisson (4-1) earned her fourth win of the season in the victory, pitching five innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits.
- Foley earned her first save of the season, coming on for two innings of relief, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out three.
- Leading UMO with three RBI was Foley, while Burge, Ingram, Power, and Thompson all recorded a pair of hits.
