Spartanburg, S.C. --- The University of Mount Olive softball team picked up a 4-2 victory over Saint Joseph's College to open action in the Mid-South Classic in Spartanburg, S.C.

GAME RUNDOWN
- Mount Olive struck early, as the Trojans plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning on RBI base hits by senior JenniBeth Burge and freshman Karen Foley that gave UMO a 2-0 lead.
- The Pumas answered in the top of the third, scoring two runs on back-to-back singles to tie the game at two.
- Foley continued to power the Trojans at the plate as the freshman smashed a two-run home run to right field, her second of the year, to push UMO back in front, 4-2.
- Saint Joseph's threatened in the top of the seventh as the Pumas put a pair of runners in scoring position with no outs.
- Foley came on and got the Trojans out of the jam, shutting down three-straight Pumas to preserve the 4-2 win for Mount Olive.
KEY STATS
- Freshman Emily Chaisson (5-1) earned the victory in the circle, coming on in relief and pitching four innings, allowing nine hits, no runs, and striking out three.
- Foley led UMO at the plate, going two-for-three with three RBI and a run scored in the win, while also earning her first collegiate save, going a single shutout inning in the circle.
