UMO Falls To Rollins In Doubleheader, 9-2 and 5-2

Winter Park, Fla. --- The University of Mount Olive softball team dropped a doubleheader to Rollins College, 9-2 and 5-2, on Thursday night in Winter Park, Florida.

GAME ONE

  • UMO scored first in the top of the first inning as junior Kayla Allen doubled to left field scoring sophomore Charlene Thompson to give the Trojans an early 1-0 lead.
  • Rollins responded with three runs in the bottom of the first.
  • The Tars added another run in the second on a solo home run that pushed Rollins' lead to 4-1 over UMO.
  • The Trojans cut Rollins' advantage to 4-2 as freshman Mikayla Koch reached on a throwing error and junior Kristin Power scored in the top of the fourth.
  • Rollins pulled away with two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth as the Tars earned the 9-2 win.

KEY STATS GAME 1

  • The Trojans were held to just four hits in the opening game as Allen, Power, Thompson, and senior Caitlin Ewers all recorded a hit.

GAME TWO

  • It was once again the Trojans who got on the board first in the second game as Thompson scored on an error in the top of the first inning to give UMO a 1-0 lead.
  • The Tars tied it up in the bottom half of the first on a sacrifice fly to left field.
  • Rollins pulled away in the bottom of the fourth as the Tars scored four runs to jump out to a 5-1 lead.
  • The Trojans looked to start a comeback in the sixth as Allen hit a solo home run to lead off the inning, but UMO could draw no closer in Rollins' 5-2 win.

KEY STATS GAME 2

  • Thompson led the Trojans with a pair of hits, while Allen added a RBI.
