Misenheimer, N.C. --- The University of Mount Olive softball team dropped a doubleheader to No. 14 Pfeiffer University, 7-6 (8 innings) and 8-0 (5 innings), on Thursday evening in Misenheimer, N.C.

GAME ONE

  • UMO scored first in the top of the first inning as junior Kayla Allen singled up the middle, scoring sophomore Charlene Thompson to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.
  • Pfeiffer responded with three runs in the bottom of the first, scoring on a double and a pair of Trojan errors.
  • Sophomore Callie Ferrell pushed Mount Olive back within one at 3-2 in the top of the second on a solo home run.
  • UMO tied the game at three later in the second as senior JenniBeth Burge scored on a fielder's choice.
  • The Trojans took a 6-3 lead in the top of the third as UMO scored three runs on three RBI singles by senior Caitlin Ewers, junior Kristin Power, and Ferrell.
  • The Falcons quickly answered Mount Olive, tying the game at six with three runs in the bottom half of the third.
  • Over the next four innings, the bats went quiet for UMO and Pfeiffer as the teams recorded just three combined hits, sending the contest into extra innings.
  • After Burge was placed on second to start the eighth via the international tiebreaker, UMO was unable to advance her.
  • In the bottom of the eighth, Pfeiffer walked-off with the win on a base-hit with a pair of runners on base, giving the Falcons a 7-6 victory in extra innings.
