Mount Olive, N.C. --- On senior day, the University of Mount Olive softball team swept Lees-McRae College, 8-2 and 7-2, in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader on Saturday afternoon in Mount Olive, N.C.

GAME ONE

  • UMO scored first in the bottom of the second as senior Caitlin Ewers hit her first home run of the season to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.
  • In the bottom of the third, Mount Olive added to its advantage with a RBI groundout by junior Anna Ingram that scored sophomore Charlene Thompson and pushed UMO ahead 2-0.
  • The Trojans' lead ballooned to four as UMO added a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth.
  • Lees-McRae answered in the top of the sixth as the Bobcats scored twice to cut UMO's lead in half at 4-2.
  • Mount Olive responded in the bottom of the sixth, scoring four runs, including a two-run double by sophomore Callie Ferrell, as the Trojans went on to grab the 8-2 victory.

  • In the bottom of the fifth, the Trojans retook the lead as junior Kayla Allen doubled to left center scoring Ferrell and Thompson to give UMO a 4-2 advantage.
  • UMO added three runs in the bottom of the sixth as Thompson scored senior JenniBeth Burge on a RBI single and Ferrell doubled down the left field line to score junior Kristin Power and freshman Kelsey Hayes as the Trojans earned the 7-2 victory.

  • Thompson led the Trojans with a pair of hits, while Allen and Ferrell each drove in two runs.
