MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The University of Mount Olive softball team split a doubleheader contest against the Hawks of Chowan University on Wednesday afternoon in Murfreesboro, N.C.

GAME RUNDOWN
- Mount Olive pounced on the boards early as the Trojans plated three runs in the bottom of the first highlighted by Alexis Oliver's two-RBI single up the middle.
- Chowan responded by pushing across one run in the bottom of the first and the score remained in UMO's favor 3-1 after one complete.
- The Trojans saw their lead fall in the bottom of the fourth as the Hawks put five runs on the board and took a 6-3 lead.
- Despite UMO adding a run in the top of the fifth, Chowan answered right back with a pair of runs in the bottom half to hold onto a four-run cushion.
- Heather Childress and Charlene Thompson added RBI in the top of the sixth to draw closer as the Trojans trailed 8-6 heading into the final inning.
- Mount Olive had the bases loaded in the top of the seventh but could only manage to push across one run as Chowan took game one by the score of 8-7.

GAME RUNDOWN
- Mount Olive got off to a bang in game two as Callie Ferrell blasted a two-run home run to put UMO in front 2-0.
- Following a solo run in the second, the Trojans added a trio of runs in the third with RBI from Eileen Barrera, Mikayla Koch, and Childress.
- After three innings in which UMO did not score a run, Mount Olive unloaded for six runs in the top of the seventh to secure the 12-0 victory
KEY STATS
- Mallory Ratcliff (1-0) pitched a complete game giving up no runs and only five hits while striking out 10 batters.
- Callie Ferrell led the team going 5-for-7 with three RBI. Oliver also added four RBI on the day.
NOTES
The Trojans return to action on Monday, February 12, as they travel to Petersburg, Va., for a doubleheader against Virginia State. Game one of the doubleheader begins at 2 p.m. with game two to start at 4 p.m.
