UMO Goes 1-1 On Final Day Of Cobra Invitational

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The University of Mount Olive softball team closed out the Cobra Invitational with a split on day two. UMO again defeated Alderson-Broadus this time winning 5-1 over the Battlers. The Cobras edged out the Trojans 3-1 for a split for Mount Olive to wrap up the tournament.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Alderson Broaddus opened the game scoring their only run of the contest on a sacrifice groundout to go ahead 1-0.
  • The Trojans went up 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning as Anna Ingram and Kristin Power both crossed the plate. Ingram was driven home following the Power single to center and Power came home following the single by Mikayla Koch.
  • UMO added an insurance run as Summer Dickerson was walked with the bases loaded scoring Callie Farrell for the Trojans third run.
  • Two more runs in the bottom of the fourth gave Mount Olive the 5-1 lead as the Trojans held off the Battlers in the final two frames. Heather Childress circled the bases after hitting a double and advancing home on an error by the left fielder. Kayla Allen hit a triple during her turn at the plate and then scored on the next play after Farrell advanced to first on an error by the right fielder allowing Allen to advance home.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Charlene Thompson tripled to start off the game against the Coker Cobras and she crossed home plate as Heather Childress, who was second to bat, hit a sacrifice fly to right field.
  • The Trojans gave up runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings as the Cobras edged out Mount Olive 3-1.

KEY STATS

  • Six different Trojans scored in the two games while five separate Trojans earned an RBI.
  • Mallory Ratcliff (2-1) earned the win against Alderson Broaddus giving up four hits and one run while striking out seven batters through a full seven innings pitched.
  • Megan Mills (1-1) took the loss against Coker as she gave up three runs, including two home runs, in six innings and walked three batters.

NOTES
Mount Olive returns to action on Tuesday, February 20, for the season home opener against Wingate University. The Trojans and Bulldogs take to Nancy Chapman Cassell Field for a doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m.
