UMO Softball Sweeps The Lions Of Emmanuel In Conference Doubleheader

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA. - The University of Mount Olive softball team won both games in the doubleheader against the Lions of Emmanuel College on Saturday afternoon in Conference Carolinas action in Franklin Springs, Ga.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • The Trojans got on the board first in the top of the third inning as Mallory Ratcliff hit a two-run single up the middle that scored Anna Ingram from second and Callie Ferrell from third.
  • A two-run homer by the Lions in the bottom of the fourth inning tied the game at two runs each.
  • UMO took a one-run lead, 3-2, following a sacrifice fly to left field by Ferrell that scored Heather Childress who ran home from third. The Trojan defense held off the Lions to win game one of the doubleheader 3-2 and improve to 12-17 on the season.

KEY STATS

  • Childress had two hits and one run in two at-bats.
  • Mallory Ratcliff (W: 7-6) picked up the winning coming in relief for Emily Chaisson to pitch 4.1 innings giving up five hits and two runs while striking out one and walking one. Ratcliff led the Trojans with two RBI's.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • After a scoreless first inning, the Trojans' bats caught fire as UMO put up eight runs in the top of the second on five hits and an Emmanuel error.
  • Anna Ingram scored first off of a groundout by Eileen Barrera. Alexis Oliver scored the Trojans second run as she stole home while Alexis Hobson stole second on the same play.
  • Kristin Power came to the plate and singled to left center that scored Hobson from second base putting Mount Olive up 3-0.
  • Power came home as Charlene Thompson struck out looking after advancing to second on a Heather Childress single.
  • Kayla Allen scored Childress as she hit a double down the leftfield line giving the Trojans a 5-0 advantage.
  • An Ingram double down the left line scored Allen and Ferrell and the scoring wrapped up with Ingram advancing home on an error by the shortstop during an Oliver at-bat.
  • Emmanuel got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third as a runner went home on an error by Alexis Oliver at third base.
  • UMO returned the favor with a run in the top of the fourth as Ferrell came home following a Barrera single up the middle that gave the Trojans a 9-1 lead.
  • The Lions put the score a 9-2 after they scored an unearned run following an error by Barrera on first.
  • An unearned run by Ferrell in the top of the sixth gave the Trojans an eight-run lead, 10-2, that gave them the win in six innings due to collegiate softball mercy rules.
