BRISTOL, TENN. - The University of Mount Olive softball team fell to the Tornado of King University in both games of the Conference Carolinas doubleheader in Bristol, Tenn.

How It Happened

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Neither team scored in the opening two innings, but in the top of the third, Anna Ingram cranked a home run to left field that scored Kayla Allen giving UMO a 2-0 lead.
  • King responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning taking a 4-2 lead over the Trojans.
  • The Tornado went ahead four runs, 6-2, after scoring a pair in the bottom of the fourth inning.
  • An Ingram single to center field scored Allen again, for the Trojans third run of the game in the top of the fifth.
  • Mount Olive's final run came in the top of the sixth inning as Amari Borrego scored on a Kristin Power sacrifice fly putting the final score at 6-4 as the Tornado won game one.

KEY STATS

  • Ingram tallied three RBI's in four at-bats on two hits.
  • Mallory Ratcliff (L: 8-9) took the loss pitching three innings during which she gave up five runs on eight hits, walking two and striking out three.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • King opened game two scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning and two in the bottom second to take a 5-0 lead heading into the third.
  • The Trojans pulled within two runs, 5-3, after scoring three runs in the top of the third inning. Kayla Allen crossed home plate following a double by Heather Childress to left field. An Anna Ingram triple to left center scored Childress and Ingram scored the following play as Alexis Hobson singled through the left side.
  • A Callie Ferrell home run in the top of the fifth tied the game at five-all as she and Allen crossed home plate for the Trojans.
  • King broke the tie with a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth going up 7-5 over UMO, that ultimately resulted in the final score.

KEY STATS

  • Kayla Allen had two runs in four at-bats.
  • Callie Ferrell tallied two RBI's on two hits in four at-bats, including a two-run homer.
