BURLINGTON, N.C. - The No. 7 seeded University of Mount Olive softball team defeated the No. 5 seeded Lees McRae Bobcats 4-3 on day two of the 2018 Conference Carolinas Softball Championship Tournament on Saturday afternoon in Burlington, N.C.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • UMO got things going with a pair of runs in the top of the first. Anna Ingram came to the plate with Kayla Allen and Heather Childress in scoring position on third and second bases respectively. Ingram hit a double to right field scoring two runs putting the Trojans up 2-0.
  • Over the next two innings, the Bobcats came back to tie the game at two runs each as LMC picked up an RBI in the bottom halves of the first and second innings.
  • With the bases loaded, Eileen Barrera came up to bat in the top of the third to hit a single up the middle that scored Charlene Thompson and advancing the other runners a base as the Trojans took a 3-2 lead.
  • LMC knotted up the score again on a single to right field in the bottom of the fourth.
  • A Kayla Allen single to left field in the top of the sixth inning scored Callie Ferrell just before Mikayla Koch was tagged out the end the inning with UMO leading 4-3.

KEY STATS

  • The Trojans tallied four runs on six hits and an error to defeat Lees-McRae College.
  • Anna Ingram drove in two RBI on her double in the opening inning to lead the Trojans.
  • Summer Dickerson (W: 2-1) pitched four innings in relief of Emily Chaisson who pitched the opening three innings. Dickerson gave up no runs on four hits and walked one. Chaisson gave up three runs on four hits with two walks and one strikeout.
