UMO Softball Drops Doubleheader To Tusculum

GREENVILLE, TENN. - The University of Mount Olive softball team dropped a doubleheader to the Pioneers of Tusculum University on Saturday afternoon.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Tusculum came out in game one swinging and instantly put Mount Olive behind with five runs in the bottom of the first. Three RBI base hits contributed to outburst including a Trojan error and UMO was down 5-0.
  • The Pioneers scored another run in the bottom of the second off a wild pitch.
  • Mount Olive was able to stop the TU run in the top of the third as Charlene Thompson double to lead off the inning and following a flyout, Cassandra Lassiter doubled to right and put two Trojans into scoring position.
  • Eileen Barrera drove in the first UMO run with a single to short and Mount Olive trailed 6-1.
  • The one run was all the Trojans could manage in the inning and the game moved on.
  • Tusculum went onto add a pair of runs in the fifth inning.
  • Mount Olive scored a run in the sixth, however, the Pioneers closed out the game via the mercy rule in the bottom half with two more runs and took game one.
  • Haley Brogden (2-2) took the loss in the circle for UMO going three innings allowing six runs off five hits and struck out two.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Game two saw the bats completely cool off for the Trojans as they could only strike together four hits for the entire game.
  • Tusculum scored the game's first run in the bottom of the first with an RBI-single and jumped out to an early 1-0 lead.
  • A two-run home run extended the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third, and a sacrifice fly in the fifth sealed the win for the Pioneers.
  • Emily Chaisson (1-1) got the loss in the circle allowing four runs off 10 hits and struck out three.
