WINGATE, N.C. - Mount Olive softball lost both games in the nonconference doubleheader against the Bulldogs of Wingate University on Wednesday afternoon at the WU Softball Complex in Wingate, N.C.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • The first game of the day was a defensive battle with neither team finding a run until the bottom of the fifth inning when Wingate put three runs on the board following a bases-loaded triple.
  • The Trojans held off the shutout after scoring a solo run in the top of the seventh as a Heather Childress single to centerfield for the RBI as Madison Morgan, who reached base on balls, scored for UMO.
  • Childress record two hits in three at-bats, while Mikayla Koch, Alyssa Pickle, and Madison Morgan combined for the other three hits of the game.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • The Bulldogs won game two in dominating fashion as Wingate put up nine runs to win in five innings with three recorded home runs including a grand slam in the bottom of the third.
  • Alexis Oliver recorded the lone hit of the game in the top of the fifth but was left stranded as the bats for UMO remained cold.

Mount Olive returns to action after coming back from spring break to host back-to-back doubleheaders against USC Aiken and Millersville. The Trojans and Pacers meet on the field Saturday, March 9th for a 3 p.m. first pitch, while the Trojans and Marauders take to Nancy Chapman Cassell Field on Sunday, March 10 for a 1 & 3 PM DH.
