Trojans Split Doubleheader Against Flying Fleet Of Erskine On Senior Day

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The Mount Olive softball team split the doubleheader against the Flying Fleet of Erskine College in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon at Nancy Chapman Cassell Field in Mount Olive, N.C. Seniors Summer Dickerson, Callie Ferrell, and Charlene Thompson were recognized prior to the game for their dedication to the Green and White.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • The teams were scoreless through two innings of softball but the Trojans found the only runs of the game in the bottom of the third inning as Cassandra Lassiter came home on a bases loaded walk for Madison Morgan, and Heather Childress crossed the plate after Megan Bryant singled to center field.
  • Neither team found another run the remainder of the game despite the Flying Fleet leaving three stranded while the Trojans left one on base through the last four innings.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Erskine's bats started off hot as they put three runs on the board in the top of the first.
  • Haley Brogden honed in her pitching keeping the Fleet off the scoreboard through the next three innings and the Trojans found a run in the bottom of the fourth to fend off a shutout. 
  • UMO's run was scored by Heather Childress after Cassandra Lassiter singled through the right side closing the Erskine lead to two runs, 3-1.
  • Neither team found runs in the fifth or sixth but the Flying Fleet dug in, in the top of the seventh to put seven runs up against UMO and won the game 10-1 after a quick three outs in the bottom half of the seventh inning.

KEY STATS

  • Lassiter recorded the lone RBI after sending Childress home in the fourth.
  • Haley Brogden (L: 9-8) earns the loss after giving up six runs on six hits, walking four and striking out three.
  • Emily Chaisson, who came in relief with one out in the top of the seventh, gave up four runs, one earned, in the loss.
