MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The Mount Olive softball team swept the Bears of Shaw University in a non-conference doubleheader on Monday afternoon at Nancy Chapman Cassell Field in Mount Olive, N.C.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • The Trojans wasted no time in finding their opening run as back-to-back doubles by Madison Morgan and Eileen Barrera gave UMO a 1-0 lead as Morgan crossed home plate on Barrera's at-bat.
  • Mount Olive found their second run in the bottom of the second inning as a single to left field from Amari Borrego scored Alexis Oliver who reached base on her own single down the left field line and moved into scoring position after stealing second.
  • In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Trojans scored their third run of the game on back-to-back doubles by Borrego and Breanna Voelker taking a 3-0 lead into the fifth.
  • Mikayla Koch led off the bottom of the fifth with a triple to left field for Mount Olive. Morgan came to the plate and hit a two-run homer over the left field wall increasing the Trojans lead to 5-0.

GAME RUNDOWN

  • Mount Olive continued to roll as they scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning. The action began with Amari Borrego singling to the pitcher followed by a two-run homer to left field by Alyssa Pickle.
  • Amber Parker scored on a single by Breanna Voelker and Voelker came home following a single to left field by Mikayla Koch that put the score at 4-0 UMO.
  • Koch scored when Madison Morgan doubled through the left side and Morgan came home after Eileen Barrera stole second and the catcher overthrew on the pickoff attempt advancing both runners a base.
  • After a quick third inning, Mount Olive added four runs in the bottom of the fourth taking a 10-0 advantage in the scoreline.
