Mount Olive  Seven Game Win Steak Snapped As Trojans Fall to Belmont Abbey 76-59

The University of Mount Olive's seven game win streak was snapped as they lost 76-59 to Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas women's basketball in Belmont, N.C. Monday night.

Morgan Midkiff got the Crusaders (18-7 Overall, 12-3 Conference Carolinas) started with a 9-0 run that lasted the first five minutes of the game. Midkiff hit two jumpers and a three-pointer in the run to give Belmont Abbey the early lead.

Jasmine McDonald netted two free throws and the Trojans (15-8, 10-5) were on the board. Mount Olive went on a 12-5 run on its own to take the Crusaders 10 point lead down to two with 10:40 left in the first half.

Andrea Jones tied the game up with her jumper at 5:57 to draw all even at 21. That was as close as the Trojans got to taking the lead.

The second half Belmont Abbey expanded upon its four point halftime lead to build what became a 21.

Joneiqua Gary finished with 16 points for Mount Olive. Kirksten Mitchell added 12 points and nine rebounds.

For Belmont Abbey Kelsey Long led all scorers with 25. Midkiff had 21 points on the night.

Mount Olive will return to action Wednesday when they travel to Lees-McRae in Banner Elk, N.C. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
