Late Run Propels Trojans Past Southern Wesleyan 78-58 In Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball

Felicity Havens scored a career-high 25 points to help lead University of Mount Olive to a 78-58 victory over Southern Wesleyan University in Conference Carolinas women's basketball Friday at Central, S.C. Kiara Jones added a career-high 18 points to go with 14 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.

Friday's contest was originally scheduled for January 23, but was moved due to snow in the Carolinas that weekend.

Mount Olive (13-10 overall, 11-6 Conference Carolinas) took a 7-6 lead midway through the first quarter and led the remainder of the game. Three-pointers by Tommarah Harris and Shy'lia Buie helped Mount Olive build the lead to as many as seven points in the first quarter and another three by Buie with exactly four minutes left in the first half gave the Trojans their first double-digit lead at 31-20.

Southern Wesleyan (4-19, 1-16) got as close as seven points, but Jones' layup with eight seconds remaining before halftime gave Mount Olive a 38-27 advantage at the break.

The two teams played even in the third quarter and Southern Wesleyan pulled within 58-51 on Aneysa Williams' putback with 7:58 left in the contest. But Mount Olive allowed only two more field goals the rest of the way and ended the game on a 16-4 run to break the game open.

Havens was 5-for-10 from three-point range, while Jones was 8-for-10 from the field. Rachel Fehl led all players with four assists for Mount Olive.

Williams led Southern Wesleyan with 13 points.

Mount Olive returns to action Saturday as the Trojans travel to Due West, S.C., to take on Erskine College in a Conference Carolinas match-up. Tip-off is 6 p.m.
